Who
I am
After working
for over twenty years with the Probation Service, I qualified as a counsellor
in 1999.
I have
worked as a therapist with a charity offering counselling for men and
women who have been sexually abused and for 9 years until 2012 I worked
in the NHS offering short term therapy and running Mindfulness Groups.
My training
orientation was humanistic and this remains my core theoretical base.
However, I have undertaken short courses in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
and Transactional Analysis and these are incorporated in my work where
this is appropriate.
I am also
an experienced Social Worker and have worked as a trainer, supervisor
and assessor of foster carers. I sit on a Fostering Panel as Chair and
an independent member. I have also trained with Barnardo's as a Specialist
Adoption Counsellor and can offer therapy to all those involved in the
adoption process.
I have
undertaken lengthy training with the Sussex Mindfulness Centre to teach
Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy both to individuals and with
groups. I have discovered from my own experience that Mindfulness practices
are an effective way of coping with difficulty whether this is stress,
anxiety or depressive periods of life.
